Manchester City legend, Vincent Kompany is all set to get the Bayern Munich wheels in motion after taking over as the new manager of the Bavarians. Speaking ahead of Bayern’s pre-season training, the former Belgium international has clarified his intentions on how exactly is he planning to shape his wards for the upcoming season and what exactly are his key plans in terms of tactical flexibility.
Kompany took over Bayern Munich from Thomas Tuchel after they got knocked off the perch in the 2023-24 season. Shockingly, the Bavarians finished in the third position behind the eventual champions, Bayer Leverkusen and Vfb Stuttgart, who came second in the race. A staggering 18-points gap with the winners exposed the woes of the team and that compelled Munich to force a handful of changes, one at the top of the ladder.
The systems, we know the profile of the players we have. We know what are their best positions. We know where they feel comfortable. We are always going to stay aligned to that as much as we can.Vincent Kompany said in the pre-season presser
Starting his career for Anderlecht, he made a name for himself following which a couple of seasons saw his mettle tested at Hamburger SV. The big breakthrough came knocking when Manchester City roped him in. After playing for 11 staggering seasons, he featured in 265 contests for the Cityzens and scored 18 goals as well, apart from being a seasoned defender. His managerial career started at Anderlecht following which he managed Burnley for a couple of years before the Bavarians roped him in.
What is the road ahead of Bayern Munich?
After a disappointing outing in the last edition of Bundesliga, a season that finished with a 4-2 drubbing against Hoffenheim in the final league game, Bayern Munich will be hopeful of redeeming themselves under the chaperonage of their new gaffer, Vincent Kompany. They will be starting their pre-season with a clash against Duren followed by battles against Tottenham Hotspur twice before officially kickstarting the season with the first-round DFB Pokal encounter with Ulm.
Their opening fixture in the Bundesliga will see them take on Wolfsburg, a battle that will be a stern test for Harry Kane, Leroy Sane and Thomas Muller, a trio that is rife with experience and will be the forefront of Munich’s attacking ambitions joined by the likes of Jamal Musiala and Joshua Kimmich in the midfield.
After a modest 2023-24, Kompany will be hopeful of finding redemption at the earliest, especially with the fans hoping to see a change in the fortunes of the side.
