Neeraj Chopra fulfilled every Indian’s dream when he became the first Indian athlete to win the coveted Olympics Gold medal in a track and field event. The 23-year old clinched the Gold Medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the Men’s Javelin Throw event winning the Gold with an 87.58m throw on his 2nd attempt out of the 6.

Neeraj was the last Indian left in the Olympics as the Indian challenge at the Games ends today and ends in style with a Gold medal to its name. Neeraj so far had a good record to his name having brought laurels home from his teenage days as he won the Gold at the 2016 U-20 Championships where he also created the World Record for U-20 category which stands to date.

He followed it up with another Gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games apart from Golds in the 2017 Asian Championships and the 2018 Asian Games, being the flag bearer in the opening ceremony at the Asian Games. With hopes of entire nation on his shoulders, the youngster did not disappoint and brought the Gold home much to the delight of the entire nation.

As his Gold was confirmed, the entire nation took to the streets in celebration of his victory and gathered outside his residence in Haryana congratulating his parents and other family members as the whole of India rejoiced in happiness for the massive achievement accomplished by Neeraj.

Neeraj Chopra caps off the most successful Olympics Campaign for India

India before Neeraj’s victory had 6 medals to its name, tying the campaign with the 2012 London Olympics campaign where the nation won 6 medals making it the then most successful campaign.

Chopra’s gold however meant that India finished at Tokyo with 7 medals, the best ever tally registered in any Olympics Game 121 years since making the debut at the 1900 Olympics. Neeraj also ended India’s pursuit of an Olympics Gold since 2008 ending a 13-year drought adding yet another reason for the celebration of his success.

The Indian Contingent will walk proudly at the closing ceremony in Tokyo having scripted some great moments in the fortnight at the Japanese Capital.
