Daniel Brown made headlines in the third round of the Open Championship at Royal Troon. He was caught on film discarding a cigarette butt on the grass while competing. This happened while he was playing well and near the top of the scoreboard. Brown asserted that smoking helped him cope with the stress of competitiveness.

Brown stayed in contention, finishing the round at 3-under par, only one stroke behind leader Billy Horschel. He had five birdies but struggled on the second nine, and missed strokes on the 11th and 18th holes, finishing with a score of 69.

He was busted smoking darts on the Royal Troon course. He also responded to a couple of criticisms made against him based on smoking.

Although he was disappointed with his finish, he felt relaxed overall. At one point, he regained the lead at six under par. However, a double bogey on the penultimate hole influenced his final score. Despite his setback, he remains in contention, tied for second place with Justin Rose and two strokes behind leader Billy Horschel.

Shane Lowry lost the lead to Billy Horschel, Daniel Brown remained T2

Shane Lowry, the 2019 Open winner, struggled in the third round at Royal Troon, shooting 77 to finish three strokes behind leader Billy Horschel. Lowry, who led by two after the second round, struggled in the harsh weather conditions. A double bogey on the eighth and five back-nine bogeys put him to ninth place, one under par.

Daniel Brown will play with world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler in the 2024 Open Championship’s fourth round. Brown is currently tied for 2nd position. Their matchup is slated for 8:55 a.m. ET. Darren Fichardt and Andy Ogletree will begin the day at 2:35 a.m. ET.

The final round, featuring Billy Horschel and Thriston Lawrence, will begin at 9:25 a.m. ET. The final round at Royal Troon promises to be interesting as players compete for the Claret Jug.
