Daniil Medvedev once again got on the wrong side of the chair umpire after losing his cool during the match against Carlos Alcaraz at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. The tournament, which was yet to witness any drama from the Russian this year, finally saw some drama in the semifinals.

Medvedev and Alcaraz started the match on the front foot. Both the players had exchanged early breaks before the Russian took the lead in the first set. However, the Spaniard held his nerve and bounced back immediately, leaving Medvedev frustrated.

The fifth seed needed only one game to take the lead in the match but failed. Additionally, a close call by the chair umpire Eva Asderaki frustrated him. He had run to the end of the singles line to reach for the forehand and make the return when the official called “not up”.

Medvedev was unhappy and swore at her, which prompted the chair umpire to call on the match supervisor and discuss the issue immediately. Later, Medvedev a warning for unsportsmanlike conduct. Another one and the fifth seed is at the risk of losing a point.

Luckily the Russian only got a warning for his behavior. He was grazing the line of getting a default, but the umpire chose to warn him. If the Russian took it a little further, he would have had to leave the court, sending Alcaraz to the finals.

After making a strong start at the Wimbledon semifinal against Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev found himself inches away from taking the lead. He had three games to defend against Alcaraz and looked likely to wrap up the set quickly.

However, Alcaraz fought back hard to take the set into the tie-break. Despite the small setback, Medvedev did not let his intensity drop and won the tie-break 7-1 to take a deserved lead in the match. This lead was not going to be for long as the Spaniard rushed in with a swift second-set win to level the scores.
