WATCH: Did Yasir Shah produce the modern day ‘Ball of the Century’?; fans say he did a Shane Warne

Shane Warne and Yasir Shah
Pakistan spinner Yasir Shah took fans back to the 1990 when he produced a Shane Warne-like ‘Ball of the Century’ by dismissing Kusal Mendis during Day 3 of the first Test against Sri Lanka on Monday, July 18. Shah played his last Test match in August last year, and with the delivery, he rekindled the memories of the legendary late Warne.
During the 1993 Ashes, Warne was bowling to England’s great Mike Gatting. His ball pitched outside leg-stump and viciously turned to rattle the top stump. This was an unforgettable delivery which would go down to be known as the ‘Ball of the Century”. The iconic leg-spinner died in March this year and left the cricket fraternity shell-shocked.
Now, 32 years later, Yasir Shah produced a similar delivery when his ball too pitched outside leg-stump and turned enough to clip the off-stump. A shocked Mendis walked back after a brilliant 76 runs.
Notably, the great Warne was also a huge admirer of Shah. In 2015, Warne lauded Shah and said, “I have always been a fan of Shah since the first time I saw him a while ago- probably the best leg-spinner in the world, the way the ball comes out of his hand.
“He wants a bit more drift and bounce and little things that can help. I hope by the end of the series he will be bowling beautifully with a huge smile on his face.”

On Day 1, Yasir Shah also became the fifth-highest wicket taker for Pakistan in Test when he dismissed Angelo Mathews for a duck. He surpassed the legendary Abdul Qadir.
The 33-year-old picked three wickets and pacer Mohammad Nawaz claimed five wickets. But still they coulnd’t stop the Lankans to go past 300 with the help of half-centuries from Oshada Fernando, Dinesh Chandimal and Kushal Mendis. At stumps on Day 3, Sri Lanka’s score reached 329/9 but they have a lead of 333 runs.
