At the end of IPL 2024, RCB wicket-keeper, Dinesh Karthik bade adieu to all forms of cricket after a glistening career in the 22 yards. Being a keeper in his entire life, he tried a new discipline for one of the shows on Jio Cinema where he was seen trying to learn goal-keeping in hockey from one of the finest that India has ever seen, PR Sreejesh.

In a video posted on the official social media handles of Jio Cinema, two greats of their respective discipline were seen together. Dinesh Karthik and PR Sreejesh were on a mission and that was to train the former in hockey goal-keeping.

The video garnered some serious attention on social media and the fans were absolutely delighted to witness two of the finest athletes defying age and showing some brilliant athleticism just for fun. Karthik being Karthik simply enjoyed the entire process and laughed his heart out at his visibly sloppy defending. While Sreejesh didn’t lose his patience and continued to teach him.

The drill was to try and save a penalty corner and as history would have it, Sreejesh was in phenomenal touch like always. Karthik, however, barely scratched the surface as the balls flew left, right and center.

Despite failed attempts, Sreejesh was eager to help RCB’s Finisher Supreme to get a hang of being the last guard of the citadel. However, Karthik’s desperate attempts simply got funnier.

Eventually, Karthik resigned to his fate, hailing wicket-keeping as easy while goal-keeping as tough. His words were, “Wicket-keeping, yes, goal-keeping no.” Sreejesh did try and make him change his position under the sticks and even asked him to use the pads instead of the stick in his hands.

However, at the end of it all, it was a fun episode and the reactions from the audience was simply amazing. They thoroughly enjoyed it and Karthik himself loved every single moment of his hockey goal-keeping training.

Dinesh Karthik finished his international cricket career with 1025 runs in Test, 1752 ODI runs and 686 T20I runs. His overall exploit in T20’s all around witnessed him pile up 7407 runs at a strike rate of 136.96. PR Sreejesh has been a phenomenal force under the sticks for the Indian national team with 321 appearances in the international circuit.
