Gerald gets the win over Silva in round 3

Gerald Meerschaert and Bruno Silva will open up the main card of UFC San Diego for the 14000+ capacity crowd as fight nights get back fans in the arena more often now. Both fighters are looking to get back into the win column and the presence of fans will only motivate them more to give the event the right start.

Bruno Silva, currently boasting a 22-7 MMA record, Silva was undefeated in the UFC up until his most recent bout. Gaining all those victories via TKO, Silva couldn’t manage to do the same against former kickboxing champion and UFC middleweight title contender, Alex Pereira. Now he looks to bounce back from that humiliating defeat, where he was outstruck by Pereira in all three rounds

Gerald Meerschaert gained immense praise from the fans with his bounce back from his defeat against Khamzat Chimaev. Having lost to the very first strike against The Chechen, Meerschaert went on to gain three consecutive submission victories in rounds 1,2 and 3, respectively in his next 3 fights. He fell on the wrong end of a decision to Krzysztof Jotko, a young polish prospect.

Gerald Meerschaert and Bruno Silva go to war for 3 rounds

Round 1

the fight starts with GM3 on the backfoot with the first connection coming from Bruno Silva, a body kick. He further tries to mix it up with front kicks and swinging rights bit misses the mark. Gerald responds with occasional leg kicks of his own. . Gerald lands his first body shot, a kick at the 2:40 mark. Silva keeps GM3 on the backfoot by threatening a straight left but gets caught in a successful takedown attempt by Gerlad at the 1:50 mark. GM3 tries to work from the mound but is severely diminished in his effectiveness by Silva working through his guard. With 15 seconds left Gerald breaks free of the guard and lands some notable ground and pound to end the round.

Round 2

Round 2 starts with Gerald landing a huge body kick, and Silva repsonds with his own combo on a jab-overhand right that partially connects. Gerlad lands another body kick and moves out of the way of Silva’s incoming offense. Gerald is building up on the body with constant body kicks, beginning most sequences with it. Silva is either frustrated or exhausted as his punches start wildly missing the mark. At the 1:47 mark, Gerlad lands a high kick that partially lands. He continues to invest in body kicks even evading Silva’s returning high kick. For the first time in the fight it’s Silva who’s on the back foot with him missing another swinging punch at the end of the round causing him to trip over.

Round 3

Gerald opens the third with another body kick and continues to use them as feints to set up his takedowns. Silva pushes the pace, threatening Straight lefts and rights hooks. However, during one such push and clinch break,Gerald Meerschaert lands a perfect left hook that connects to Silva’s chin, sending him to the ground. As Gerald tries to put in the finishing touches, Silva tries to salvage what’s left and covers up, this prompts Gerald to go for a guillotine, making Silva tap.
