The current edition of the Lanka Premier League 2024 is turning out to be an exciting one. Dambulla Sixers finally managed to win a game after suffering three consecutive defeats. They beat Colombo Strikers at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, on July 7.
Glenn Phillips was the center point of attention in that game. He displayed his sensational acrobatic skills and proved why he is currently the best fielder in the world. It happened in the 6th over which was being bowled by Thisara Perera. He bowled a slow-off cutter to deceive Kusal Perera. However, Perera played the pull shot effectively.
The ball was traveling to the deep mid wicket boundary for a six, but Phillips stepped up. He timed his jump beautifully and acrobatically. Philips caught the ball, pushed it back inside the fence and saved the six. Even the commentator thought that it was a six. However, Phillips had other ideas.
Glenn Phillips is certainly the best fielder in the world currently
Phillips has shown it on many different instances that he is the best fielder in the world currently. These acrobatic fielding and catches come naturally to him.
He gives his all in the field and is a four dimensional player. Phillips contributes with the bat, can bowl handy off spin, can serve as a wicket-keeper as well and is definitely a sensational fielder on the outfield. Phillips has proven it time and time again that even brilliant moments on the field can become the turning points in the game and can be the difference between a victory and a defeat.
Meanwhile, coming to the match, Dambulla Sixers won the toss and elected to field first. They bowled well but the Colombo Strikers still put up 185 runs on the scoreboard. Phillips contributed with a half century as well and helped Strikers reach this score.
However, the Colombo Strikers lacked the sharp edge while defending the score. Sixers managed to chase down the total easily with 8 wickets in hand. It was a comfortable victory for the Sixers but Phillips’ save will definitely be one of the most striking moments in the game.
