It was absolute cinema in Kingston as Afghanistan registered their first semi-final berth in the history of T20 World Cup, crashing out Australia in the process. However, that win came with countless twists and turns and a bit of Emmy-winning acting flair on display as well. The man being talked about in this context is Gulbadin Naib.
The incident happened in the 12th over when it suddenly started drizzling and the DLS score that was needed by Bangladesh to win was 83. They were batting at 81/7. As it started raining, Afghanistan coach, Jonathan Trott suggested to take things slow. Naib took the cue a bit too seriously and straightaway rolled onto the ground, clutching onto his hamstring.
The funny part is that the hamstring will need to be in friction in the first place to be injured. If someone is standing then the hamstring is in resting position which cannot lead to an injury. With Naib going down while standing and clutching on to his hamstring, the entire world didn’t realize what was happening.

Eventually when the rain break came to an end, which was a short one per se, the target was revised to 114 from 116 in 19 overs. The act didn’t really shape up the cause for the Afghans, more importantly it also infuriated Rashid Khan, who was angry with the move.
What happened when Bangladesh came back to bat against Afghanistan after rain-interruption?
When Bangladesh came back to bat, they had the jitters going on because Litton Das was the solitary warrior for the evening. After the game resumed, Najibullah Zadran came on as a substitute fielder but it was not for long. Naib came back in the 13th over and bowled the 15th over as well where he claimed the prized scalp of Tanzim Hasan Sakib.
Naveen-Ul-Haq dealt the telling blows, claiming the wickets of Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman which proved to be the coup de grace for the Tigers. With this win, Afghanistan sailed hammer and tongs to the semi-final while Australia who were defeated last night had to bid adieu to the tournament.
