At just 16 years old, Lamine Yamal is one of, if not the best young talent in the world. The La Roja winger announced himself to the world in unbelievable fashion as France were knocked out of UEFA Euro 2024 by a teenager and his teammates. Luis de la Fuente and Spain have Yamal and Dani Olmo to thank for seeing them through against a resolute French side.

Yamal stole all the headlines for his wonderful goal against Les Bleus. Spain found themselves on the wrong side of the scoreboard as Kylian Mbappe set up Randal Kolo Muani for the opener. Spain responded in emphatic fashion, as Lamine Yamal fired in from outside the area to beat Mike Maignan in his far post. His screamer of a shot took everyone by surprise as Spain dragged themselves back into the game.

Yamal also surpassed the late Pele to become the youngest player to score in at the Euros or World Cup.

Dominant Spain ride the storm to send Kylian Mbappe and co. back home

It was business as usual for Luis de la Fuente’s men as Spain made it to the final of the Euros for the first time since 2012. However, it wasn’t smooth sailing for La Roja, as France took the early lead against the flow of play in the 9th minute! However, Spain responded brilliantly through Lamine Yamal, who scored one of the goals of the tournament just 12 minutes later.

Just as France were recovering from the equalizer, up stepped Dani Olmo to hand Spain the lead. The RB Leipzig man expertly brought down the ball from a headed clearance before sending Aurelien Tchouameni the wrong way. Olmo’s powerful shot was blocked by Jules Kounde, even though the ball ended up in the net.

After initially being awarded as an own goal, the officials overturned their decision and credited Olmo for the strike. Once they took the lead, Spain made use of their ability on the ball and experience to wear down the French attack.

That being said, Kylian Mbappe and his supporting cast were anything but clinical in front of goal. Their missed chances and spurned opportunities came back to haunt them as they ended their unconvincing Euros campaign in the semi-final.
