Former Indian Cricket Team all-rounder and brothers, Irfan Pathan and Yusuf Pathan, got engaged in a heated altercation during India Legends vs South Africa Legends match in the World Championship of Legends 2024 tournament. India was chasing a steep target of 211 runs in their 20 overs.

The incident happened when India’s score was 132/5 in18 overs. On the first ball, the former Proteas fast bowler, Dale Steyn, bowled a juicy length ball on the off stump. Irfan Pathan tried to hit a big six over the long off boundary but the ball did not hit the middle of the bat. Hence, it did not travel the distance. Jacques Kallis was running backward to take the catch but could not successfully grab it despite his best efforts. However, Dane Vilas was swift to get hold of the ball and hurl a perfect throw to the non-striker’s end.

There was a miscommunication between the two brothers and Irfan was well short of the crease at the non-striker’s end. Steyn got hold off the ball perfectly and inflicted the run-out and Irfan had to return back to the pavilion. He did not take the run-out lightly and in the heat of the game, had a go at Yusuf Pathan for not calling early.

The South Africa Legends batted first and scored 210 runs in their 20 overs. The main contributors in their innings were Ryan McLaren (20 off 13), Jacques Snyman (73 off 43), and Richard Levi (60 off 24 balls). The Indian bowlers have been in very poor form in this edition of the tournament and they were smashed to all parts of the ground in this match as well.

During the chase, India could manage to score just 156 runs in their 20 overs. The innings was resurrected by the Pathan brothers. Yusuf was the top scorer for India with 56 runs off 24 balls and Irfan scored 35 runs off 11 balls. Although India could not chase down the total, they did qualify for the semifinals.

The Indian Legends have not played their best cricket in the tournament. They have been lackluster on several occasions in all the three facets of the game. However, they will hope to raise their level of performance in the knockout stages of the tournament. They have lost 3 and won 2 games out of the 5 that they have played.

Meanwhile, the head coach of the Indian Men’s national cricket team has been announced and Gautam Gambhir will be the one to take over that role right from India’s tour of Sri Lanka.
