On this day, eight years ago, Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut for the Mumbai Indians. Bumrah immediately shit to fame due to his unusual action. Eight years down the lane, the Baroda quick is not only a vital cog in the Indians’ side but is also leading India’s pace attack across formats.

Bumrah made his IPL debut against Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2013 and he returned with figures of 3 for 32 in his debut game. Bowling in tandem with Lasith Malinga over the years, Bumrah mastered the art of bowling yorkers and delivering under pressure.

In his very first over on the big stage, Bumrah scalped the wicket of a well-set Virat Kohli to open his tally of wickets. The right-arm quick trapped Kohli in front of the wickets to earn his maiden IPL wicket. Ever since Bumrah has accumulated 109 wickets in 92 IPL games so far with best figures of 4/14.

Seven years down the lane, Kohli also became Bumrah’s 100th IPL wicket as he achieved the milestone in IPL 2020. Three years after making his IPL debut, Bumrah made his India debut against Australia in an ODI in 2013. The 27-year-old has played 67 ODIs and 50 T20Is for the country bagging a total of 167 wickets. In 19 Tests so far, he has picked 83 wickets including five 5-wicket hauls.

Bumrah had a great outing in IPL 2020 as he finished as the second-highest wicket-taker. He must be rearing to get out in the middle and fetch his franchise a third straight trophy in the upcoming season. IPL 2021 will kick off on April 9. Defending champions MI will lock horns with RCB at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai in the tournament opener.
