The Boston Celtics’ head coach Joe Mazzulla is thoroughly known for his awkward interviews with the media in the NBA. Recently, after his side was victorious over the Dallas Mavericks in Game 2 of the NBA Finals, Mazzulla gave a puzzling response when asked to recap the team’s play. Many NBA fans are still trying to decode what Mazzulla said.
In the post-match press conference, the Celtics HC was explaining his team’s play in detail. However, his response was so quick that he got half of the reporters in the press conference puzzled. Interestingly, it was not only the reporters but the fans too as they took to social media to put forward their views.
On the social media platform X, the Celtics Junkies posted the video of Mazzulla’s full recap of Game 2 with the caption “Joe Mazzulla is a menace.” Below is the clip of Joe Mazzulla leaving the media completely stumped in confusion:
This, however, was not the first instance Joe Mazzulla had rendered the entire pressroom stumped. The Celtics HC had found himself in a similar situation in the pre-game presser of their Game 2 in the Championship series against the Mavs earlier this week.

Very few coaches master the art of confusing reporters, but it seems Boston Celtics’ Joe Mazzulla has done just that. Mazzulla’s interviews always seem to faze the journalists questioning him, as well as the NBA community.
Earlier, ahead of Game 2 of the NBA Finals, Mazzulla puzzled reporters when asked about him and Mavs’ head coach Jason Kidd being the only two Black head coaches since 1975. Instead of providing a clear answer, Mazzulla threw one back at the reporters asking “how many Christian” coaches had coached in the NBA Finals.
I wonder how many of those have been Christian coaches.Joe Mazzulla asked the press
Despite bringing up “Christianity” during the press conference, Mazzulla declined to engage in additional conversation about the subject.
Mazzulla will now be focused on the upcoming matchups against the Mavs. One can surely expect another Mazzulla classic interview if his Celtics side wins the next matchup against the Mavs in the NBA Finals.
