As if he was not enough of a problem in the UFC’s Welterweight Division, Khamzat Chimaev decided to step up his game by training with one of the most renowned training gyms worldwide for striking, Tiger Muay Thai. Chimaev rose to fame in 2020 when he won his first two fights in the UFC within 10 days, finishing both of them and knocking out a reputed UFC veteran Gerald Meerschaert within 17 seconds of the first round in his third UFC fight.

After taking a year off due to Covid, Chimaev went on to fight a ranked opponent in Li Jingliang and it didn’t seem like he left fighting for a year. At UFC 267 in October 2021, Chimaev picked Jingliang up, started talking to President Dana White sitting out of the cage-side, dropped Jingliang and smoothly submitted him unconscious in the very first round of the fight. A number of opponents have called Chimaev out including Neil Magny, Geoff Neal and Belal Muhammad. But the callout that interests Chimaev the most is from the former UFC welterweight title challenger Gilbert Burns, who last fought in July 2021.
