WATCH: MS Dhoni gets angry, shouts at Matheesha Pathirana for missing an easy run out in RR vs CSK match
These shabby fielding efforts resulted in RR adding up 20 extra runs than expected and positing a huge total (202/5) on the board.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni, who is known for his calm demeanour lost his cool and got angry during his team’s game against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Wednesday. Dhoni looked frustrated and angry with Matheesha Pathirana’s lazy attitude on the field. The CSK skipper shouted at Pathirana as the latter missed an easy chance of a runout.
The incident took place in the 16th over of the RR innings when Shimron Hetmyer and Dhruv Jurel were batting. As Hetmyer missed to put bat to ball against Pathirana, the ball lobbed near the stumps at the non-striker’s end. Meanwhile, the two RR batters sneaked in a single despite Dhoni collecting and throwing the ball at the non-striker’s end.
The CSK captain looked angry because there could have been an easy run out had Pathirana stood at the non-striker’s end and collected the ball. However, it could not happen as the bowler was wandering in the middle of the pitch instead. Dhoni was also visibly upset with Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja for conceding two runs on the last ball of the RR innings.
These shabby fielding efforts resulted in RR adding up 20 extra runs than expected and positing a huge total (202/5) on the board.
Third defeat for CSK
After letting Rajasthan put on a big total, CSK batters crumbled under pressure and the four-time champions lost the match by 32 runs. This was CSK’s third defeat of the season and second against RR. Although Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway provided a good start (42 runs in the powerplay), CSK kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
Losing Gaikwad, Ajinkya Rahane, and Ambati Rayudu within a span of eight deliveries did not help CSK either. Shivam Dube (52 off 33) did threaten to an extent but CSK left too much for later.
