The 24-time Grand Slam champion faces a race against time to be ready for the grass court season and the Paris Olympics. The month of July is surely set to test the Serb to his limits.
Novak Djokovic headlines Serbia’s roster for the Paris Olympics
Novak Djokovic has been confirmed to compete at the Paris 2024 Olympics by the Serbian Olympic Committee. This will mark his fifth participation in the Olympic Games, having been a competitor in every edition since 2008. The 37-year-old secured a bronze medal in his debut but has since fallen short in the bronze medal matches at the subsequent Games.
Djokovic has been unable to achieve his Olympic Gold medal dream, losing the silver medal match to Andy Murray in the 2012 London and Alexander Zverev in the 2021 Tokyo Games. He was eventually denied a bronze in Tokyo following a loss to Pablo Carreno Busta. In Rio 2016, the 24-time Grand Slam champion lost in the first round to Juan Martin Del Potro.
In April, Djokovic emphasized that winning a gold medal at Paris 2024 is a major goal for him, despite having to withdraw from the French Open quarter-finals last month due to a knee injury. The Olympic tennis matches will take place at Roland Garros, the site of the French Open, from July 27 to August 4.
The tennis line-up for several countries has been announced, with Murray and Rafael Nadal set to join the Serbian in the competition. Murray has hinted that the Games could be a fitting end to his career. The Scottish legend has won two Olympic Singles Gold Medals in 2012 and 2016 respectively. Additionally, world number 56 Dusan Lajovic will also be representing Serbia in the event.
