Seven-time Grand Slam champion Boris Becker recently lauded Jack Draper on X after the Brit’s triumph in the 2025 Indian Wells. This marks Draper’s first Masters 1000 title and his third title on tour.

Draper had an impressive run in this tournament, defeating several higher-ranked players like Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton on the way to his first Masters finals. The most remarkable of his matches in the Californian desert was the victory against World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals. He ended the Spaniard’s quest for a three-peat in Indian Wells, a feat that only Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer have accomplished so far.

In the finals, Jack Draper defeated Holger Rune, who was briefly coached by Boris Becker from October 2023 to February 2024. Becker commended the 23-year-old for being well-spoken, educated, humble, and also a ‘beast on the court’.

The German also called on the top-ranked men’s tennis players—Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, and Carlos Alcaraz—to be aware of Draper for the rest of the season. With this triumph, Draper, who was ranked 14th, has now ascended to the top 10 for the first time and is now ranked World No. 7.

“You will be where you deserve”- Carlos Alcaraz’s words for Jack Draper

Earlier this year at the Australian Open, Jack Draper had to retire during his fourth-round match against Carlos Alcaraz due to an injury. Fans later praised the 21-year-old for his sportsmanship and maturity, as Alcaraz penned a sweet message for Draper on the camera lens after the match. Alcaraz wrote, “You will be where you deserved. Get well soon Jack”.

I remember, you know, in January when I played him in Australia, he had to retire. I said, ‘You will be where you deserve.’ And he deserves to be top 10. He deserves to play a final in the Masters 1000. I am happy about him because I didn’t doubt about his level, about himself. He’s ready to stay there for a long time. He’s ready to play for the big events, for the big tournaments.

After the Australian Open, Draper reached his first singles final of the year in the Qatar Open, where he was defeated by Andrey Rublev in three sets. Following the Indian Wells semifinal match, Alcaraz tipped Draper to be one of the best ATP players, reiterating his earlier message for him and calling him deserving to be top 10.

I feel like I deserve it, in all honestly. The amount of adversity I’ve been through, the amount of sacrifices, the amount of time that all the people around me have put into me, and the hard work. It’s an emotional feeling to know how much you’ve gone through and put in and to be here now to say that I’m going be No. 7 in the world tomorrow, I can’t tell you how much that means to me.

Jack Draper said during his on-court interview

Since the message Alcaraz left for Draper in Melbourne, Draper has now reached his full circle moment. Draped in victory, he has shown the world that he truly deserves to be among the best tennis players. Draper has also become the fifth British man to win an ATP Masters 1000 title, following Andy Murray, Tim Henman, Greg Rusedski, and Cameron Norrie.

This match marked their second meeting on court, and they did so in matching kits sponsored by Nike. In their first meeting, Holger Rune defeated Jack Draper in the Cincinnati Masters quarterfinals last year in straight sets. However, this time Draper was dominant from the start of the match as he brushed aside Rune 6-2, 6-2 in the Indian Wells finals.

Draper, who suffered a lingering hip issue earlier this year, looked in fine touch as he moved around the court with ease, hitting 21 winners to cap a superb week. Playing in his fourth Masters 1000 final, the Dane had the benefit of experience but struggled to find his rhythm as he made seven winners against 18 unforced errors.
