Before the Madrid Open, 37-year-old Nadal said he was uncertain of playing another season on home soil. He also said that he doesn’t want to waste opportunities, and will enjoy the matches he is playing, even if he does not play to his full potential.
So the victory over 10th-seeded de Minaur was special for the Spaniard as it made him stay in Madrid, unlike the previous tournament. Knowing how important it was, Nadal kept celebrating in the back after the win.
