Rashid Khan has been proven himself to be one of the finest leg-spinners in the cricketing arcade and played an instrumental part in propelling Afghanistan to the T20 World Cup semi-final where they were defeated by South Africa. Despite the defeat, Afghanistan made history by reaching the T20 World Cup semis for the first time.
In a recent interaction and a video released by YESNetwork, Khan was seen bowling with a baseball. Trying to differentiate between bowling with the cricket ball and the baseball, the iconic leg-spinner emphasized that the seam of the two balls are poles apart and yet somehow the seam on the latter actually helps it to turn a lot more which is absolutely loved by Rashid Khan.
The weight is pretty much similar but the seam is totally different. I don’t know how I am going to hold the ball. It is going to be exciting for me. I hope it goes right way because the seam position is totally split. (Pointing to the baseball) here it's too wider. I don’t know how it works on the baseball. In conventional cricket ball, I hold the seam proper, this is my leg spin.Rashid Khan said on the official YouTube channel of YESNetwork
He would then eventually go onto bowl a couple of deliveries, one of them the conventional leg-spin while the other being the wrong one and in both the instances, the baseball did turn diametrically enough to underline the fact that Khan can make any ball turn.
A glance at Afghanistan’s journey in the T20 World Cup
Afghanistan had a memorable T20 World Cup that saw them carving the impossible and sailing hammer and tongs into the semis ahead of juggernauts of the sport like New Zealand, Australia and Pakistan. Until that semi-final, they looked like a team who were well aware of what they needed to do under the chaperonage of Jonathan Trott.
They started the tournament with a win over Uganda, while following it up with a surprise victory over New Zealand and that too an emphatic one. They produced a hattrick of wins with another comprehensive win against Papua New Guinea. Despite losing to West Indies and India on the trot, they would go onto beat Australia and Bangladesh to clinch the prized semi-final spot.
