The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is already underway. India were playing their first match of the tournament against Bangladesh. The Men in Blue are not travelling to Pakistan and will be playing all their matches in Dubai. In this match, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and elected to bat first.
India were in the driver’s seat right in the first half of the match with five early wickets. Axar Patel picked two wickets in two balls in the form of Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Tanzid Hasan. He was on a hat trick and got the edge of Jaker Ali on the very first ball.
On the fourth ball of the ninth over, Patel tossed the ball outside off and induced the edge of Ali’s bat on a defensive shot, but captain Rohit Sharma dropped a sitter in the slips. The Indian captain was livid after missing the catch and thumped the ground with his hands to show his frustration after missing the catch.

Sharma also apologized to Patel with folded hands for missing a sitter, as hattricks don’t come easy and Patel would have got a hattrick on the very first over of the spell in the opening match of India in the Champions Trophy. The drop proved costly for India as Ali stitched together a partnership of over 100 runs with Towhid Hridoy.
India have five spinners in the squad for the ICC Champions Trophy
Team India suffered a huge setback ahead of the Champions Trophy as their main bowler Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out with an injury. India have included five spinners in their squad, with three of them being all-rounders. So, they are definitely dependent on their spinners to provide them the breakthrough in the middle overs.

Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav were the three spinners picked for the match against Bangladesh. Meanwhile, Harshit Rana and Mohammed Shami led the pace attack, with Hardik Pandya being the main seam-bowling all-rounder.
India are coming to this tournament on the back of a 3-0 win against England at home. They have been heavily dependent on Bumrah in the last few years, who has been the best bowler across formats. He played a vital role in India winning the T20 World Cup in 2024.
