The NASCAR Xfinity Race at COTA didn’t disappoint as fast-paced track provided for some very close wheel-to-wheel fights between drivers. One of the most brilliant displays of wheel-to-wheel racing was three-time Supercar World Champion Shane van Ginsbergen‘s move on Ty Gibbs for P3.
The move was done into turn one and showcased yet again what a driver of three times Supercars champion Shane van Ginsbergen‘s quality can bring to NASCAR. The move was on the limit and one of most brave moves that any driver has done at the COTA track.
Coming into the first corner on straightway during the race, Ty Gibbs overtook Gisbergen with a hard left through the inside lane of the Kiwi. SVG made good use of his superior road course experience and as soon as Gibbs hit the break entering the corner, the former made a hard left and overtook the young JGR driver. Gibbs wasn’t able to lift his car enough to stop the move.
After the race, the Chevrolet Xfinity Racing driver also spoke about that was one the best moves he’s executed in his illustrious racing career. Moreover, with Gisbergen showcasing more comfort and ease in the Xfinity Racing series, he will definitely be promoted to a NASCAR team for sure.
Shane Van Gisbergen’s thoughts on his performance at COTA
After overtaking Ty Gibbs with his brilliant move, Shane Van Gisbergen just fell short of the win while fighting with Chevrolet driver Kyle Larson. The driver spoke about his fight with Larson and how the No:17 just had an edge on him.
It was a crazy race, we got better and better. It was some pretty awesome racing with Karl and at the end it just turned into a mess. Thats how it is, it was really fun but wish i could've got the lead, but Karl just snapped through there. He was driving really really well, but yeah a lot of fun.Shane Van Gisbergen after the race at COTA
Gisbergren was later given a penalty for cutting a corner and since then got demoted to P27. But, the Kiwi definitely has some positives to take from this weekend as he drove really well and extracted the maximum potential from the car.
