Uttar Pradesh notched up their first win of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy by easing past Tripura. In their Elite Group A match, Tripura never got going and failed to muster a fight. Winning the toss and electing to field, the Priyam Garg-led UP side were quick to trigger a collapse with some tight and efficient bowling. Milind Kumar waged a lone battle for Tripura and got them to 122/6 in the end.
In the chase, UP lost their opener Abhishek Goswami in the Powerplay but Karan Sharma and former Indian international Suresh Raina starred with explosive knocks to chase the target down in just 13.1 overs. With the win, UP are in fifth position while Tripura are last, both very bleak positions.
Suresh Raina runs out Tripura skipper M Murasingh
In the 16th over of Tripura’s innings, Suresh Raina effected a cheeky run-out to dismiss skipper M Murasingh. Bowling a good length delivery, Raina received a straight drive from the striker and immediately flicked the ball on to the stumps at the non-striker’s end through his own legs to find him short of his crease.
The run-out reminded fans and viewers of former Indian captain MS Dhoni‘s similar exploits as a wicket-keeper where he would effect such ‘no-look’ run-outs. The video clip of the run-out has since then, gone viral.
