Her story dates back to 2021 when she was playing in New York ahead of the US Open. She ran into Borges where they had accidentally bumped into each other and it was love at first sight. Soon, Borges cheered for the Spanish-Venezuelan tennis sensation from the stands as their bond grew stronger and stronger.
In a recent interview for Tennis Channel during the Madrid Open, Garbine Muguruza told her love story, which the couple always have a laugh over, making it hard for them to believe it is true.

Garbine Muguruza was having a stroll in Central Park during her non-practice hours. Arthur Borges, being a keen tennis fan, identified Muguruza. Muguruza, on her part, felt that he was very handsome.
We met in the street in New York. It was love at first sight, was one of those boring days. I didn’t know what to do so I go for a walk on Central Park as always and just bumped on him. And it’s like, wait a minute, you are very handsome, who are you? And he’s a tennis fan, so he recognized me.Garbine Muguruza said
