After India’s defeat in the hands of South Africa, West Indies got the chance to play in the semi-finals of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup. India lost their last group match against South Africa at the Hagley Oval Stadium in Christchurch.

West Indies, who was defeated by South Africa in their last group match, were eyeing India’s defeat. They have relied heavily on the result between India’s match as well as England vs Bangladesh match. But especially India’s defeat meant a lot for them as it would mean they would be placed fourth on the points table. England defeated Bangladesh by 100 runs. Now four teams that qualified are Australia, England, West Indies and South Africa.

The match between the Proteas and the ‘Women in Blue’ was a nail-biting one. India scored 274 runs by losing 7 wickets. The pressure on both the team was till the end. In the last over, South Africa only needed 7 runs to win. Deepti Sharma, the experienced spinner was given the charge by team captain Mithali Raj to bowl in the final over.

Deepti was successful from the first ball to not give chance to the batters to hit big runs. But the 5th ball of the over changed everything. A dangerous-looking Mignon du Preez’s ball was caught by Harmanpreet Kaur, who was very successful with the bat, ball and fielding.

Du Preez started going back to the dressing room when the field umpire stopped her and called that delivery a no-ball. As India started enjoying Du Preez’s wicket, it was soon ended after the no-ball. Deepti Sharma overstepped the crease. When South Africa needed only 1 run in 1 ball, all the member of India was standing in the inner circle to stop du Preez from scoring single. But du Preez then hit a four and broke the hearts of team India and Indian fans.
