Wayne Rooney is without a doubt, one of the best footballing talents England has produced. The Manchester United man needs no introduction as to how good he was in his heyday. However, after retiring from professional football at the age of 35, the former England international has tried his luck from the dugout.

It is safe to say that the 38-year-old has been unable to replicate his success from his new position. From Derby County to D.C. United and Birmingham City, his list of managerial pursuits do not instill confidence. His most recent stint with EFL Championship club Birmingham City, was disastrous to say the least. With just two wins in 15 games, Rooney was sacked just three months into his three-and-a-half year contract.

Fans have found a new reason to laugh at the player-turned-manager, as he took charge of his new club. Plymouth Argyle are an EFL Championship club that finished 20th in the Championship last season.

His first game in change did not go as planned, after the manager saw his side get humiliated 4-0 against Sheffield Wednesday in the season opener.

Fans laugh at Wayne Rooney as disaster run as manager continues

Wayne Rooney came under significant criticism on social media as Plymouth Argyle embarrassed themselves in the first game of the season. A fan commented that Rooney should try his best to stay away from managerial roles to avoid further embarassment.

Another added that he should immediately purchase podcast equipment and join the likes of Rio Ferdinand and Jamie Carragher. Looking back at how the Englishman’s former club Birmingham slipped down to relegation last season, fans couldn’t help but see the same happening with Plymouth. An honest fan laughed at how he kept getting new jobs despite his poor record.

Even though Rooney’s new club sits at the very bottom of the pile in the Championship, it is too early to make a prediction for the new season. The club have signed him on a three-year deal, with the Englishman pocketing a modest £500,000 per year. Plymouth’s next game is against Cheltenham in the EFL Cup.
