US President Donald Trump is a huge fan of golf. On many occasions, he has teed off with some of the biggest names in the world. He once played a round of golf along with former Manchester United star Wayne Rooney. Some years later, Rooney opened up about the ‘mad‘ experience he had.
After making a huge name for himself in the English Premier League, Rooney left for the United States to play in the Major League Soccer (MLS). The forward would join DC United in 2018, a team that he later coached as the manager.
During his time at the club, Trump was in the first term of his Presidency. In an interview with his former teammate, Gary Neville on The Overlap, Rooney pointed out that Trump reached out to ask him to give his son, Barron, some footballing lessons. At that time, Barron was part of the DC United Academy team.
Barron would later take the soccer star to the Oval Office, from where the personal assistant of Trump took him to the course. There he met Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City.
While speaking with Neville, Rooney mentioned that there were around 50-100 golf buggies of security. There were also snipers on a boat in the lake with some hiding in the bushes to protect the US President.
The maddest thing about it was we had Giuliani in the buggy (golf cart) behind us. Then there were about 50-100 golf buggies that were all security. There was a boat in the lake with snipers, there were snipers in the bushes, and I was like ‘What’s going on here?!

Rooney went on to make 48 appearances for the MLS side and scored 23 goals. He eventually returned to the team in July 2022 as the head coach of the team. That stint did not last long, as after 53 games, he and the club decided to mutually part ways, as he was poached by Birmingham City. He was sacked just 15 games after he took the gig.
Donald Trump recently won another club championship
A few days ago, Donald Trump claimed that he had won another club championship. The 78-year-old took to his Truth Social account to reveal this and called it as probably his “last” victory.

Many times, Trump has taken to his Truth Social account and revealed that he had won a championship. This time he did not reveal what his score was. In one of his previous triumphs, he mentioned that he shot a score of 68 to win the Senior Club Championship.
I just won the Golf Club Championship, probably my last, at Trump International Golf Club, in Palm Beach County, Florida. Such a great honor!

This claim of Trump was disputed by some. Golf writer Rick Reilly once accused the US President of ‘cheating’ on the golf course.
Trump has also bragged that he is a 2.8 handicap golfer. This claim from him has also sparked wild reactions from fans. However, he did show off some of his skills while playing alongside the reigning U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau in the ‘Break 50’ episode.
Donald Trump hoping for PGA Tour to merge with PIF
This week, LIV Golf action will return to the Trump Doral Course in Miami for the fifth event of the year. US President Donald Trump, who owns his course, will be on the scene. He has also expressed his wish to see the PGA Tour merge with the Public Investment Fund (PIF).

Trump intervened in this deal after a visit from PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan and player-directors Tiger Woods and Adam Scott. The previous round of meeting between the PGA Tour and the PIF did not go as well as many had hoped for.
This has stalled the talks once again, leading to frustrations among fans and players. While speaking with reporters on Air Force One, Trump claimed that it would be “good” if the two tours merged.
Ultimately, hopefully, the two tours are going to merge. That’ll be good.

This comes from him after the PGA Tour declined a latest offer from the PIF. The sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia sent a $1.5 billion investment offer on two conditions. One would be the assurance of the continuation of LIV Golf and Yasir Al-Rumayyan being the co-chairman. Both of these advances were denied by the tour.
