Going by what’s transpired over the last one year, it is pretty evident that Roger Federer is nearing the end of his career. Ever since the Swiss maestro got hampered by the knee injury early in 2020, things have not been very smooth for the 20-time Major Champion.

Sure, he made a comeback at the ATP 250 in Doha, but his loss early in the tournament has only raised doubts in the tennis fraternity. Although, Federer will return at the ATP Masters 1000 in Madrid later this month, speculations are plenty on whether this could be his last year on the ATP tour.

Speaking to the “Wish & Go” Podcast, the younger Djokovic explained, “We have not invited Roger Federer this year because we had to take into consideration our budget; we could not afford to spend all of our money on one player. We had to distribute money the other way, to spread it, but we hope to see Roger Federer in Belgrade in the coming years.”

While Serbia might have missed the opportunity this year, Djordje clarified and showed interest in inviting the Federer for 2021. “It is my sincere hope that we will be able to host him at least once before he ends his career. We will invite him next year, I can promise that.”

Currently, Federer is ranked no.7 on the ATP rankings and will need plenty of match time on the tour to get ready for his beloved grass court season.
