‘We deserved to lose’ : Mikel Arteta gives his assessment on the defeat to Liverpool

Mikel Arteta
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta says that his team fully deserved to lose after a dismal performance against Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday night. The Gunners lost 3-0 to the Reds after Diego Jota came on the second half to score two crucial goals. Mohammed Salah too got on the scoresheet.
Mikel Arteta believes Liverpool could’ve scored more
Mikel Arteta posed a tired figure after the loss against Liverpool as the Spaniard apologised to the supporters. The coach admitted that his team were nowhere near the required level and fully deserved to lose. This was Mikel Arteta’s 50th game in charge as Arsenal boss.
He has now lost 17 of these fifty initial games. To give bit of perspective Unai Emery lost thirteen. It’s clear that Arsenal need major improvements in the upcoming summer transfer window. The injured quartet of Emile Smith Rowe, David Luiz, Granit Xhaka and Bukayo Saka completely left them in the dark.
We completely deserved to lose the game. They were better in every department and deserved to win the game with the margin they had, or even more. I accept responsibility for the way we played today. Liverpool completely deserved to win the game, probably by a bigger margin. We were extremely poor. We apologise.
They made the right decisions, we didn’t. It is my fault. I have to set the team up to perform in a different way and that is it. Congratulations to Liverpool because they were exceptional today. That showed the difference between the two teams – that when they play at that level, the margin is incredibly high.
For Liverpool though, this result comes in at a great time with the UEFA Champions League quarter finals looming just around the corner against Real Madrid. They will need to be at their absolute best and this positive performance will help boost their confidence.
