UFC interim bantamweight champion Petr Yan is no joke if it comes in handy for the undisputed champion Aljamain Sterling to take him lightly. Both Yan and Sterling are going to settle their unsettled first fight via the rematch taking place in the co-main event of UFC 273 this weekend in Jacksonville, Florida, the USA. The fight card is headlined by a featherweight title clash between the champion Alexander Volkanovski and Chan Sung Jung.

Yan and Sterling are engaging in a title unification match at UFC 273. In the first fight back in March 2021 at UFC 259, Yan lost his then undisputed bantamweight title via disqualification to Sterling due to an illegal move- knee to the grounded opponent. Yan since then has fought only once winning the interim bantamweight title when he defeated Cory Sandhagen via unanimous decision at UFC 267. Sterling is going to fight for the first time in over a year as he bounces off from a successful recovery from a neck injury.

In a pre-fight media scrum of UFC 273, Yan talked about his fight with Sterling, his bad blood with him, his preparation, Sterling’s significance to his career, comparisons with Alexander Volkanovski and much more. Along with this, Yan was also asked when he meets Sterling before the fight how it will end.

Without any hesitation, with a constant cold expression and death stare attached to his face, Yan responded “If we see his team, we kill [all his] team. Right now, not Saturday.”

What do you make of Yan threatening Sterling and his corner? Do you think the threatening is too much as it covers the team or is Yan just pulling off a marketing gimmick?
