“Weighing In” show hosts, John McCarthy and Josh Thomson call the Ben Askren vs. Jake Paul fight “A total sh*tshow”

Weighing In podcast hosts, John McCarthy and Josh Thomson were absolutely disgusted after watching the production of the Ben Askren vs. Jake Paul boxing match. The fight was promoted purely for the commercial aspect and the show had more pop culture influence than that of the sport. The hosts of the podcast Weighing In completely ripped the show last night

The hosts of Weighing In believe that the production, officiating, talent and everything were a disgrace to the sport of Boxing and if that is the direction it is headed, it doesn’t look too good for the sport. Paul and Askren were trending on all the socials after the fight. Triller, the fighting company behind this event was part of every conversation for the pop culture influence in the fight.

Jake Paul vs Ben Askren

“This type of sh*t, it’s not going to sell, and if it continues to sell, this is where boxing is headed then,” Thomson said Sunday on the “Weighing In” video podcast. “Total sh*tshow. I feel bad for the real boxers out there.” Josh and John feel bad for the boxers that give everything for the sport and get paid less than the two headliners.

“You made a lot of money on the first one, but you didn’t make it because you were incredibly gifted in your production, or because it was so cool because of the music and the fighting,” the veteran referee said. “You’re not doing anything new. Affliction did that back in 2007. … It’s a matter of, your fights are horrible. They’re really bad. At least Affliction had great fights.”

The hosts of “Weighing In” don’t agree with the stoppage decision

Ben Askren vs Jake Paul stoppage

Jake Paul knocked out Ben Askren in the very first round within a minute. Jake hit the former MMA champion with a punch that put him to the floor. But Askren was up and also agreed to continue fighting. The referee though deemed him unfit and called for the stoppage. The Weighing In show hosts believe it was an embarrassing decision.

“To stop the [Paul] fight, no, you don’t stop the fight. You don’t just hand it Jake the fight that way. Yes, Ben got hit with a shot, but Ben was up, and Ben was ready to go. His hands were in the right place…all the things. Small-time decision.

It was really bad. If you’re going to have a fight on, bring on a referee that understands what it’s like to referee a high-level competition, or a big-time show,” they spoke on the Weighing In show.
