Zhang Weili vs Rose Namajunas at UFC 261 has been officially confirmed by the promotion. The event was initially planned to be held in Singapore, but due to failed negotiations on COVID-19 grounds, it is going to be held in Las Vegas. Weili vs Namajunas joins another cracker of a contest already in the main card – Valentina Shevchenko vs Jessica Andrade.

The event will he held on the 24th of April, and UFC’s Twitter official handled confirmed the news of the fight between the two strawweights. “A classic in the making”, UFC tweeted. The announcement comes almost exactly a year after Zhang Weili put on an unbelievable show at UFC 248, against Joanna Jedrzejczyk.

Both the fighters are coming off wars!

Zhang Weili is coming off ‘that’ war against Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 248, which Weili won via. split decision. She is undefeated in the UFC, with a 5 match win streak, having made her debut at UFC 227. This will be her second title defense, after she won the strawweight belt against Jessica Andrade in August 2019.

Rose Namajunas, on the other hand, is coming off a very close contest as well – a split decision victory over Jessica Andrade at UFC 251. She had lost the previous match against her at UFC 237. The former women’s strawweight champion will be looking forward to getting her hands back on the coveted belt.
