Wenger admits he knew Serge Gnabry would be a superstar

The talented German winger joined the Gunners club in 2011 after leaving Stuttgart. He was not a regular in the first team for the initial days with only 18 appearances to his name. He was performing fairly at the English club but Wenger was sure that the kid would be a star in the future.

After Arsenal, Gnabry failed to move to West Brom for a loan in 2015. But later joined Werder Bremen in 2016 before his successful inclusion in the German giants Bayern Munich which happened a year later.

Why is Gnabry so special?

The 25-year old recently scored a brace in Bayern’s win over Lyon in the UCL semi-final. Wenger was quick to rejoice on his former player’s performance. “Let’s not forget Gnabry, I bought him at the age of 15 from Stuttgart and he was injured a lot.” Wenger also added, “He’s creative, he can score goals, right-footed, left-footed, good power, good penetration and very clever with the timing of his runs.”

While a successive run of injuries came Gnabry’s way, Wenger was however interested in keeping him at the Emirates very desperately. Wenger wasn’t happy when Gnabry departed for Bayern but knew that he would be very successful one day and will be a star for sure.

“He wanted to sign in the end, didn’t want to extend his contract and I was very sad. But we couldn’t get over the line with him because I knew he would have a great career.

Wenger was all praise for Gnabry after his performance against Lyon. But also gave Bayern a vital piece of advice to tighten their defence against the mighty PSG with shear attacking prowess.
