The closing shot of this week’s episode of Raw was one that fans had eagerly awaited. The World Heavyweight Champion, Gunther, and Undisputed WWE Champion, Cody Rhodes, came face-to-face for the first time. This was after The Ring General had successfully defended his title in the main event against Sami Zayn. But what happened after the cameras had stopped rolling?
Fan footage captured the two top stars staring down at each other before posing with their belts. Gunther left after a while as Rhodes stayed to express his gratitude to the live crowd. Why did the male world champs come face-to-face last night? Well, it had to do with Triple H‘s ‘historic’ announcement during Saturday’s Bad Blood PLE.
The WWE CCO revealed that both men’s and women’s world champions would face each other at Crown Jewel in less than four weeks. However, neither of the titles will be on the line. Instead, the biggest stars of the company will be fighting to become the inaugural Crown Jewel Champion. As expected, this announcement was met with a chorus of boos.
Although fans are pleased to see a ‘dream’ bout between Rhodes and Gunther, the circumstances behind it aren’t the most ideal. Next week on Raw, the two world champions will speak to each other ahead of their battle on November 2nd. Given the World Heavyweight Champion’s recent antics, it will be interesting to see what he has to say to his counterpart.
Cody Rhodes was in no mood to talk about Kevin Owens on Raw
After defeating The Bloodline at Bad Blood, Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns seemingly showed their mutual respect for each other. This did not sit well with Kevin Owens, who confronted Rhodes in the parking lot following the show.
The Prizefighter finally snapped on his friend as he launched a brutal attack on him. On last night’s episode of Raw, Rhodes made an unadvertised appearance. Although he was asked about the incident, the Undisputed WWE Champion did not comment on it.
Interestingly, Sami Zayn even offered to discuss what had transpired on Saturday. However, it seems that Rhodes was focused on the world title bout instead. So far, Triple H has disclosed that they would deal with the matter internally. Moreover, fans can expect The American Nightmare to address the betrayal on the upcoming episode of SmackDown.
