The latest episode of SmackDown featured Cody Rhodes addressing Solo Sikoa and his Bloodline. He agreed to give the former NXT North American Champion a title shot. However, the faction attacked him anyway. This led to the champion’s long-time friend and mentor, Randy Orton, coming out to make the save.
Unfortunately, things did not end well for the former Legacy members. The Samoan Faction beat them down and even put Orton through the announce table. WWE later released footage of the aftermath of this beatdown on their social media accounts. Several backstage officials and referees came out to help The Viper get back on his feet. Rhodes can be seen standing alongside his friend throughout.
The American Nightmare stood next to his mentor, allowed him to take as much time as he needed, and helped him back up to his feet. Cody Rhodes, along with another backstage official, propped up the Apex Predator and helped him backstage. Although the former WWE Champion had to stop multiple times on the way due to the pain, they slowly but surely carried him behind the curtains.
Rhodes seemed highly emotional during the clip. He felt somewhat responsible for Randy Orton taking a vicious beating. The Bloodline tied him down and forced him to watch his long-time friend getting thrashed.
Cody Rhodes confirms his match at SummerSlam against Solo Sikoa for the WWE Undisputed Championship
Solo Sikoa was successful in pinning Rhodes at the Money in the Bank PLE. Fans knew that WWE was trying to set up a singles match between these two superstars for SummerSlam. This was finally confirmed on the latest episode of SmackDown when the WWE Undisputed Champion came out to confront The Bloodline.
Rhodes made his entrance, looking disgruntled, as the Bloodline stood in the ring. The 39-year-old said that he had heard everything Sikoa had been saying and claimed that they both wanted the same thing. Although he had to speak to Nick Aldis first, it may as well be official that the two superstars would go head-to-head at SummerSlam with the WWE Undisputed Championship on the line.
Rhodes claimed that if it was really up to him, he would not wait until the biggest party of the summer. Instead, he would want to put his hands on Solo Sikoa right there and right then. This led to the group surrounding the champion and the intense beatdown that took place before the show ended.
