Kevin Owens has become quite notorious for his outbursts over the past few months. He has turned on multiple of his friends and put people on the shelf. Of course, all this is highlighted by his signature Package Piledriver, which he even attempted on Shawn Michaels. Unfortunately, Sami Zayn recently became the latest name to be added to his hit list.

Zayn was brutalized by Kevin Owens during the latest episode of Raw. A fan-recorded video reveals the aftermath of this incident after the show went off the air. The clip showed the former Intercontinental Champion lying lifeless on the ground as medical professionals and also CM Punk checked up on him. Medical professionals eventually put the Canadian on a stretcher and rolled him out backstage. Throughout this entire process, he did not move a single muscle.

The main event of Raw featured Punk going one-on-one against Zayn in an Elimination Chamber qualifying match. The match ended with the Best in the World coming out on top, and the competitors shook hands afterward. However, Owens ambushed his former friend out of nowhere and hit his signature package piledriver.

This betrayal is likely a result of the aftermath of the Royal Rumble. At the PLE, Cody Rhodes had hit a devastating Alabama Slam on Owens through a ladder, which left the latter bloodied. This allowed the American Nightmare to climb up and retrieve his WWE Undisputed Championship. Although Zayn was present at the scene and tended to his friend after the match, the Prizefighter is likely mad at him for not getting involved in the match and helping him win.

What are WWE’s plans for Sami Zayn going forward?

Fans have witnessed WWE treat the piledriver as a highly protected move. The promotion often goes above and beyond when it comes to selling the effects of this move. It’s been months since Randy Orton disappeared from WWE programming, and even Cody Rhodes was off TV for a few weeks. Thus, it is likely that Sami Zayn will also not be seen for a while.

However, it is worth noting that the Elimination Chamber emanates from Toronto on March 1st. Sami Zayn is often involved in significant marquee match-ups at PLEs hosted in Canada or Saudi Arabia. Thus, it is unlikely that the former NXT Champion will sit this one out and could make his return in less than a month.

These two Canadians going head-to-head in Toronto will surely blow the roof off the place. Alternatively, WWE could delay this feud between Zayn and Owens up until WrestleMania. A few weeks ago, the former Universal Champion had talked about the potential of them facing each other again at the Showcase of the Immortals. They could finally get their wish, but this time, it may not be for the WWE Championship in the main event as they perhaps dreamed it would be.
