It has been over a fortnight since Khabib Nurmagomedov beat Justin Gaethje at UFC 254. The Russian put on a marauding show defeating the American in the second round, via a triangle choke. Khabib stunned the world in the immediate aftermath, after announcing his retirement in the post-fight interview, saying that he had promised his mother that he wouldn’t fight anymore without his late father by the ringside. But, the “Eagle of Dagestan” made a request to the UFC asking them to put him at the top of the Pound-for-Pound rankings. (He was second then) As requested, Khabib was made the number one P4P fighter, the following Tuesday, displacing Jon Jones.
More recently, fans were in shock when they discovered that Conor McGregor was the number one Pound-for-pound fighter in the official website of the UFC. He was also the no.1 in the lightweight rankings as well, having not fought even a single fight in the lightweight division since UFC 229, back in 2018.
