What is the ‘Reserve Day’ rule for T20 World Cup 2022?
T20 World Cup 2022
ICC has listed the schedules, venues, and all the essential details for the T20 World Cup. It has also added the Reserve Day rule, which will be only for the semi-finals and final.
According to the Reserve Day rule, if semi-finals and final matches fail to occur due to rain or other interruptions, the game won’t get suspended. Another day will be given when both countries will lock horns. However, the rule will also only apply if a five-over-match doesn’t complete from the teams’ innings.
Notably, in the 2019 ODI World Cup, Virat Kohli’s men lost only a single game en route to the semi-final against New Zealand. Constant rain in Manchester reserved a day for the teams. That match didn’t end up in India’s favor, for overcast conditions worked well for the Kiwis.
16 teams are participating in this year’s T20 World Cup
Sixteen teams are participating in the tournament. The match between Sri Lanka and Namibia kicked start the game. Eight teams will play against each other to qualify for the Super 12 stage. The two top teams among them will join the other eight in the Super 12.
The other eight have already qualified, and their matches will start on October 22. The semifinals will be played on 9 and 10 November. The final will take place on November 13 at the MCG in Melbourne.
Meanwhile, the tournament couldn’t start better. Namibia shocked Sri Lanka and won the match by 55 runs. In the second match, UAE bowlers almost guided their team to win, but the Netherlands snatched the victory with one ball left.
India will be playing two warm-up matches against Australia and New Zealand. After the matches, Rohit Sharma‘s men will be locking horns against Pakistan on October 23 to start their World Cup campaign.
