“What you say we run it back” – Derek Brunson calls out Robert Whittaker on Twitter
Derek Brunson, last fought Edmen Shahbazyan, dominating him to eventually win via. TKO. It came as a shock to many, as the previously unbeaten Edmen, came into the fight as the favorite. The win gave Derek Brunson a much needed confidence boost and now he sits at number 7 in the welterweight rankings. As recently as last month, Derek had even called out Paulo Costa on Twitter, but Costa just didn’t seem to care and now it looks like Derek has turned his attention towards the number 1 ranked welterweight division contender, Robert Whittaker.
With his new-found confidence, Derek Brunson took to Twitter to call out Robert Whittaker, against whom he had lost when the two faced-off back in 2016, November 27. Tagging Dana White and the UFC, the North Carolina based Mixed Martial Artist urged Whittaker to run the fight back.
“That first fight was disrespectful. I tried to bully you and that didn’t work” – Derek Brunson via. Twitter
Derek Brunson tweeted, “I can’t get a fight with someone who’s surging . @robwhittakermma what you say we run it back . 4 years later. That first fight was disrespectful. I tried to bully you and that didn’t work . @ufc@Mickmaynard2@danawhite“
Brunson is currently on a three match win streak. Whereas, Robert Whittaker on the other hand dominated Jared Cannonier at the recently concluded UFC 254, earning his number 1 ranked Welterweight Division contender status back. It is highly unlikely that Robert would respond to Brunson’s callout, as the Aussie has his sights set on the middleweight title. This fight might come to fruition only if Brunson keeps winning and climbs up the middleweight ladder!
