Where are they now: Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez
When you get signed by Sir Alex Ferguson for his marauding Manchester United squad, you should know that you are good. Javier Hernandez found himself at the Theatre of Dreams in the 2010/11 season in which he helped them win against Chelsea to lift the title. Now he finds himself in LA Galaxy, where players in their twilight find themselves. When players older than him like Cristiano Ronaldo, James Milner and Sergio Ramos are performing at their peak in the biggest clubs of Europe, why is Chicharito there?
He was the in-between player
Sir Alex Ferguson said that Javier Hernandez is a one position player. He also said that Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney could play across the front line. So it is obvious who the manager would choose to play. However atleast in this period Chicharito could score goals and give Ferguson a choice. This too dried up when David Moyes replaced Sir Alex Ferguson.
Under David Moyes, there was general discontent in the team as he didn’t know how to manage a star-studded team. Also he didn’t experiment with his team selection as the team didn’t win many matches and put him under pressure. Even when Chicharito played, he couldn’t score goals as there was no chances created for him. In the end, Javier Hernandez was a player who was too talented to sit in the Manchester United bench, but also didn’t have the talent to hold a starting position in the team.
He also didn’t perform to the expectations of officials in Real Madrid. He played very less minutes and Real Madrid weren’t keen on keeping him. He then moved to Bayer Leverkusen and Sevilla and finally moved to LA Galaxy. Things are tougher here in America for him. LA Galaxy has shown that they play better without him and star forward Cristian Pavon plays better too. They have enjoyed more success when they channel their attacks through Pavon, rather than Hernandez. Also Hernandez positions himself in the middle of the ground rather than up the field. Due to this he hasn’t scored the goals that is expected of him. Simply put, LA Galaxy haven’t found way to accommodate him.
One could only hope that he regains his form in time since the Mexico National Team is always open to him.
