After suffering a heartbreak at the 2024 US Open where he was knocked out in the second round, Carlos Alcaraz is ready to represent his country at the World Cup of Tennis in Valencia. He will be playing for his country under the leadership of David Ferrer when the 2024 Davis Cup Finals Group Stage gets underway.

The 21-year-old bagged a silver medal in the singles event at the Paris Olympics and will hope to produce a similar performance in the Davis Cup. Alcaraz will be representing his country at the prestigious event for the first time since 2022.

Pitted in Group B with Australia, France, and the Czech Republic, six-time champions Spain will open their campaign against the Czech Republic on Wednesday (September 12). Having exited the Davis Cup at the group stage in Valencia last September, Spain is looking for redemption and Alcaraz will have a huge role to play.

This season, the four-time Grand Slam champion has won two of the four Majors and the Olympic silver medal. He thus has an important role to play if Spain hopes to book its spot in the Top 8 for Malaga. Spanish captain Ferrer is optimistic about his team’s chances with the return of top names.

We have not only Carlos [rejoining the team], because this year we have Roberto Bautista [Agut] and Pablo Carreno [Busta], who last year they were injured. That’s important for the team. Of course, it’s amazing the compromise of Carlos to be here in Davis Cup and is one of the best tennis players on the tour. I think he managed very good the pressure of Davis Cup, he’s played two years ago and knows what this is.
