San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama captured the admiration of everyone even before his rookie season started. His extraordinary movement and his 7-foot-3 frame make him a formidable opponent for any defender. Many players and celebrities remain awestruck by the French superstar. Former President Barack Obama remains the latest one of the admirers.

The ex-POTUS appeared on a recent episode of JJ Redick’s revamped show, “The Young Man and the Three.” He joined alongside Tyrese Haliburton to express his admiration for the reigning Rookie of the Year. Barack Obama was in awe of the Frenchman and drew a comparison between Wembanyama and a young Kevin Durant.

It’s hard to take your eyes off when Wembanyama is on the court. I mean, you’re too young to remember when Durant first came in the league, and that was freakish right? You just hadn’t seen somebody that tall with that skill set.

Victor Wembanyama has drawn comparisons to Kevin Durant, particularly due to their lanky frames and shooting skills. While Durant is a more refined player because of his years of experience in the league, there is no doubt that Wemby possesses the potential to pick up the torch when needed.

Moreover, the Spurs’ fan base expects Wemby to step up with the new season already underway. They want the team to avoid a repeat of last year’s disastrous performance. Additionally, with the signing of veteran Chris Paul, last year’s DPOY runner-up can elevate his game to new heights.

Victor Wembanyama puts the league on notice with improved three-point shooting 

While he keeps getting admirers from everywhere, Victor Wembanyama experienced a tumultuous journey with his 3-point shooting during his award-winning Rookie of the Year season. His shooting percentage struggled early on, as he recorded under 28% in the season’s first two months. 

However, he showed signs of improvement in January and February, as he shot above 32% and peaked in March with an impressive 41.3% from beyond the arc. He then finished the season with a 32.5% average. According to Spurs insider Paul Garcia, the expectations for Wembanyama’s long-range shooting in his second season are on the rise. Even Wemby commented as much.

I think it’ll be about the same number, but better percentage for sure.
