As the Opening Day for the 2025 season keeps on getting closer, baseball fever is ready to take over the United States again. Before that, the fans are eagerly waiting for the release of the baseball video game, MLB The Show 25.
Developed by the San Diego Studio, the MLB The Show series is a huge hit among baseball fanatics. This year, the game has lined up some big changes to gameplay and other modes including the popular “Road to The Show” mode where players can now play in high school and colleges.
This year will also mark a significant first for the franchise. For the first time, there are three cover athletes. Cincinnati Reds’ Elly De La Cruz, Baltimore Orioles’ Gunnar Henderson, and Pittsburgh Pirates’ ace Paul Skenes will all headline the cover of this upcoming game.
On Wednesday, the game revealed the highest-rated players in the game. Unlike last year, there are only three 99 overall players in the game this year. Let’s delve deeper to find out how they are and which are the other top rated stars in the game.
Top 5 highest-rated players in MLB The Show 25
Shohei Ohtani – Los Angeles Dodgers – 99 Overall
One of the two players to retain his 99 overall rating from last year is Shohei Ohtani. After spending 6 seasons with the Los Angeles Angels, Ohtani joined the Los Angeles Dodgers in December 2023. The Japanese international was given a 99 overall rating for his incredible performances as a two-way player.

While he did not pitch in the 2024 season due to an elbow injury, he caused havoc from the plate while playing as the designated hitter. Ohtani founded the 50-50 club and finished the regular season with 54 home runs and 58 stolen bases.
His performances saw the Dodgers win the World Series in 2024. He was later once again named as a unanimous MVP award winner.
Aaron Judge – New York Yankees – 99 Overall
The other player to retain his 99 overall rating from the previous edition is New York Yankees’ captain Aaron Judge. After a poor season according to his high standards, Judge bounced back in the 2024 campaign.

The slugger once again crossed the 50-home run mark and finished the year with 58 regular season home runs. He also led the league in Runs Batted In (RBI) with 144. His performances helped the New York Yankees reach their first World Series since 2009.
Unfortunately, the Yankees lost in the Fall Classic against the Dodgers. Despite the heartbreak in the end, Judge was once again honored with the American League MVP crown.
Juan Soto – New York Mets – 99 Overall
The third and final player who will be 99 overall rated in MLB The Show 25 is Juan Soto. The Dominican international is coming off following an incredible season with the New York Yankees which helped him shatter records in the offseason.

Soto penned down a massive 15-year $765 million deal with the Mets, making this the largest contract ever offered in MLB history. It is also the biggest contract in professional sports history.
The 26-year-old had formed a formidable duo in the Yankees lineup alongside Aaron Judge. Soto smashed 41 home runs and had 109 RBI in the regular season. He made some vital contributions in the postseason that saw the Yankees reach the Fall Classic. With him now on the Mets, the National League side will be one team that many players could choose.
Ketel Marte – Arizona Diamondbacks – 96 Overall
The fourth-highest rated player in MLB The Show 25 is Arizona Diamondbacks’ star Ketel Marte. After reaching the World Series in 2023, the Diamondbacks were unable to reach the postseason again in 2024.

Despite their failure to reach the playoffs again, Ketel Marte was the top star of the team. The second baseman had his best year when it came to hitting.
He hit 36 home runs and had 95 RBI alongside his name while batting with an average of .292. This saw him finish third in the National League MVP rankings behind Shohei Ohtani and Francisco Lindor.
Bobby Witt Jr. – Kansas City Royals – 96 Overall
The fifth highest-rated player in MLB The Show 25 this year is shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. of the Kansas City Royals. The 24-year-old star had a breakout year and played a huge part in his team’s success during the 2024 campaign.

While batting with .322 average, Witt Jr. slammed 32 home runs and cashed in 109 RBI. His performances saw him finish ahead of Juan Soto in second place in the American League MVP ranking behind Aaron Judge.
Apart from him, Mike Trout is also a 96 overall rated player. Last year, the Los Angeles Angels superstar was a 99-rated player, but due to injuries and a long time absence in the 2024 campaign, his rating took a hit, leaving him at 96 for this year.
