Grigor Dimitrov
Grigor Dimitrov is a Bulgarian professional tennis player. His career-high ATP singles ranking is world No. 3, which he achieved in November 2017. Dimitrov is to date the most successful Bulgarian male tennis player ever and the only one who has ever broken through the top 10 rankings. He is also the highest-earning Bulgarian to date with his prize earnings to date is USD 20,418,174.
Dimitrov also had a massively successful junior career and had achieved the prestigious world no.1 rank along with also winning two consecutive grand slam boys’ titles in 2008. He has 8 singles titles to his name.
Who coaches Grigor Dimitrov?
As a junior Dimitrov was coached by his father, Dimitar Dimitrov, at Tennis Club Haskovo. In 2009, Dimitrov started collaborating with coach Peter Lundgren who is a former coach of world no.1 Marat Safin, and Roger Federer. Lundgren even remarked that “he is better than Federer was at his age.”
From 2013 to 2015, the Bulgarian was coached by Roger Rasheed who is the former coach of players like Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Gael Monfils. In 2016, Dimitrov partnered with Daniel Vallverdu, who played a very important role in the rise of the Bulgarian. Under his wing, Dimitrov won the 2017 ATP finals and also played some very important matches against the then-top 10 players and achieved his best ranking to date which was world no.3.
Since 3 January 2021, Dimitrov has been working with Dante Bottini. “I knew his potential, but to tell you the truth he surprised me that it’s even better. He’s unbelievably talented. The things that he can do on the court are unbelievable. I have in mind things I want him to get better with and things I want to work with him on. We’ve shared information with each other and we’ve been doing well so far,” said Bottini about the Bulgarian.
The most notable player under Bottini before Dimitrov has been Japanese Kei Nishikori who climbed to world no. 4 under his wing.
