Who coaches Nikoloz Basilashvili? Know about this Georgian’s coach
Nikoloz Basilashvili
Nikoloz Basilashvili is a Georgian professional tennis player with a career-high ranking of world no.16 in 2019. He has won 5 singles titles and stood as a runner-up 3 times. In 2019, Basilashvili completed his first title defense by winning the German Open for a second successive year.
Nikoloz has an estimated net worth of around 6.7 million and his career earnings to date amount to $7,399,775. Nikoloz was born in Tbilisi Georgia and has often talked about the financial hardships his family had faced in his childhood. Nokoloz’s father is a dancer of a National Georgian Ballet and his mother worked as a physician. He has a son named Lukas, who was born in 2015, with his ex-wife Neka Dorokashvili.
Who coaches Nikoloz Basilashvili?
Nikoloz Basilashvili was formerly coached by Jan de Witt. “A coach can destroy everything with just one sentence. But with Jan it is different. I trust him completely,” said Nikoloz about De Witt. Nikoloz did not have a full-time coach before Jan de Witt because of personal apprehensions.
De Witt insists, “There must be somebody who stops you from making a mistake. And, at other times, someone to push you to do the right thing. As the coach, you need to know when to do it.”
Nikoloz’s career suffered because of a scandal that happened in 2020. Nikoloz had decided to divorce his ex-wife Neka Dorakashvili in 2019, and custody of their then 4-year-old son was granted to Nikoloz. Neka filed a domestic abuse complaint against Nikoloz Basilashvili and the Georgian was arrested on 24 May 2020 but was later granted bail on the term of paying 100,000 GEL ( US$32,206).
“If the player feels you are scared to lose your job, then you have lost already. I have a reputation that has been built up over 20 years. That is if I don’t feel like working with a player then I stop at that moment. I don’t care how much it is going to cost me.” said Jan De Witt about his attitude towards coaching.
Basilashvili achieved his best result at a Masters 1000 in Indian Wells by reaching the final and became the first Georgian to do so since 2004 where he lost to Cameron Norrie.
