Who is the Owner of FC Goa?
FC Goa is an Indian professional football club franchise, which competes in India’s top domestic league, the Indian Super League. The club was founded on 26th August 2014 and is based in Goa. FC Goa also became the first Indian club to qualify for the AFC Champions League group stage, when they won the ISL League Winners’ Shield in the 2019/20 season.
They had an impressive debut season in their first ISL season, where they finished second in the league group stage only to be defeated by Atletico de Kolkata in the semis. They were the runner-up in the 2015/16 season as they lost to Chennaiyin FC in the finals. They reached their second league final in the 2018/19 season, where they lost again, this time to Bengaluru FC.

The club is owned by Goan Football Club Pvt. Ltd. The company’s ownership was previously in the hands of Dattaraj Salgaocar and Shrinivas Dempo, who had 37% stakes in the company. But in 2016, following a dispute with Chennaiyin FC in the finals of the 2015 edition of ISL, they made an exit from the company. The club is now owned by Jaydev Mody, Akshay Tandon and Virat Kohli.
Jaydev Mody is an entrepreneur and the owner of Delta Corp Limited, an Indian gaming and hospitality corporation that owns and operates casinos and hotels under a variety of brands. It is India’s only publicly traded company that engages in casino gaming (live, electronic, and online). The company dominates the Indian market in organised gaming, and at a time when Indian gaming was untouched and under-appreciated by companies, the company made the first move to legally start the business which enabled them to become a leader in gaming and entertainment industry.
Delta Corp owns and operates three offshore casinos in Goa out of a total of six offshore casino licenses and one land-based casino. Its flagship casino, the Deltin Royale, is also the largest gaming vessel on the River Mandovi and one of the largest casinos in India. Delta Corp currently owns one hotel in Goa and one in Daman in the hospitality sector. The Delta Suite in Goa is a 106-room all-suite hotel and casino in Goa with a 1,000-square-foot gaming area. The Deltin, Daman, on the other hand, is a 176-room five-star deluxe property and the largest integrated resort spread across 10 acres. It also owns the online poker site Adda52.com, which has enabled its presence in India’s online gaming industry.
Akshay Tandon is the President and co-owner of FC Goa. In 2020, he decided to venture in real estate with Myra, which is a new real estate venture in Goa. He also co-founded a creative agency called Skarma based in Mumbai. Skarma’s famous clients include Starbucks, Mumbai Indians, Ministry of External Affairs etc.
Akshay is also an investor in PeakScale, an intelligent operations platform. The company mostly heads restaurant, retail and commercial industries. Their major clients include Naturals Ice cream, Mad Over Donuts and Tommy Hilfiger.
Virat Kohli became the co-owner of FC Goa in 2014. In the year 2015, he became a co-owner of UAE Royals, a team that competes in the International Premier Tennis League. In the month of December, he joined the Pro Wrestling League franchise Bengaluru Yodhas as a co-owner. Kohli also launched a youth fashion brand named WROGN in November 2014. In 2015, the brand began producing men’s casual wear clothing and collaborated with Myntra and Shopper’s Stop.
In 2015, Kohli invested ₹900 million (US$13 million) to start a chain of gyms and fitness centres across the country named Chisel. The chain of gyms is jointly owned by Kohli, Chisel India and Cornerstone Sport and Entertainment. In 2016, Kohli started Stepathlon Kids, a children fitness venture, which focuses on children between the ages of 8 to 12.

The net worth of FC Goa is ₹374.94 million. It is placed in the 5th position in terms of net worth among the ISL teams. Their principal sponsor is Indinews. It’s associate sponsors include Paytm First Games, Oaksmith Gold, Deltin, Kingfisher and JK Lakshmi Cement. Reyaur Sports became their official kit sponsors in 2021.
