Who is the Owner of Mumbai City FC?

Mumbai City FC is an Indian professional football club, which competes in India’s top domestic league, the Indian Super League. The club was founded in August 2014 and is based in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Mumbai City FC plays its home matches at The Mumbai Football Arena which is a multi-purpose stadium located in Mumbai, India. The stadium is part of the Andheri Sports Complex and is used mainly for football matches and tournaments.

After a series of disappointing campaigns in the ISL, the club found success under Sergio Lobera, who was named as the manager for the 2020-21 season. In his debut season as a manager, the former FC Goa coach, led The Islanders to two major titles as Mumbai City FC became the first-ever club to win both the ISL League Winners Shield and the ISL Trophy in a single season.    

In the 2020-21 season, Mumbai City FC finished at the top of the points table, as they beat ATK Mohun Bagan in the finale by 2-1, to clinch their first-ever title. They again faced ISL finalists ATK Mohun Bagan in the ISL League Winners Shield as they beat them comfortably by 2-0.

On April 13, 2014, Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor won the bidding war for the Mumbai-based franchise and became its co-owner along with Bimal Parekh. On November 28, 2019, British-based holding company City Football Group purchased a 65% stake in the club. With the acquisition, Mumbai City became the 8th club to be owned by the City Football Group. With CFG coming on board, the club acquired the advantage of having plenty of opportunities, including knowledge transfer and access to opportunities for both players and club officials alike.

Ranbir owns a substantial stake in Saavn.com, an online music streaming service. Saavn announced a merger with JioMusic on March 23, 2018, in a deal worth more than $1 billion. In December 2018, the merger was completed, and Saavn was rebranded as JioSaavn. JioSaavn is an Indian online music streaming service that distributes Bollywood, English, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and other regional Indian music worldwide.
