The Tennessee Titans took a big hit before their training camp as quarterback Will Levis withdrew from the season. According to Ian Rapoport, the 26-year-old Bay Stater has decided to undergo surgery on his right shoulder and forego the season.

Levis sustained an injury early last season and continued playing through it, which undoubtedly made it worse. In twelve games, Levis managed to complete 190 passes for 2,091 yards and 13 touchdowns. He threw 12 interceptions while being sacked 41 times, which is quite a lot on the shoulder.

The Titans drafted Cameron Ward in the 2025 NFL Draft as the first overall pick while trading in Brandon Allen from the San Francisco 49ers in the offseason. They also brought in Tim Boyle, who played three games last season between the Miami Dolphins and the New York Giants.

With Levis announcing his decision, Cam Ward is the obvious starter. The Miami Hurricanes product was already predicted to start for the Titans from Week 1 if he showed up well in training camp. Now, the Titans don’t have to make a decision.

The optics of the situation aren’t exactly flattering. Over two seasons, Will Levis holds a 5-16 record—not the most convincing resume for a starting quarterback. Given that, some are questioning whether Levis opted for surgery knowing he might spend most of the upcoming season as a backup behind Ward.

The Titans aren’t in dire need of signing another quarterback at this instance. Boyle and Allen will serve as the backup quarterbacks for Ward. However, if anything, Miami Dolphins’ last season has shown that backup depth would always be important. If the Titans somehow go that route and sign a replacement, Jared Koch of Sports Illustrated identified Carson Wentz, Teddy Bridgewater, and CJ Beathard as potential options.

Tennessee Titans ready to open training camp on July 23

Brian Callahan, the head coach, has built a more offensively oriented roster in the offseason. Although Cam Ward is almost confirmed as the quarterback, the Titans will be utilizing the practice time to further test him out and understand his chemistry with the receiving corps. They also have several questions on O-Line and other key positions on the defense as well.

The Tennessee Titans will join the rest of the NFL teams and kickoff their preseason activities on July 23 with their training camp. The Titans will kick off their camp at the Ascension Saint Thomas Sports Park with a morning session. They will continue with another morning session on Thursday before their main training camp event.

On Saturday, the Titans will make their way to Nissan Stadium in Nashville, where they have been playing since 1999. The Titans famously won their first thirteen games at the stadium before losing to the Baltimore Ravens. The current season is projected to be their last one at the Nissan Stadium as the New Nissan Stadium will be up and running in 2027.

The Titans Get Back Weekend, as it is called, will feature inflatables, tailgates, and discounted concessions for the fans. They will return to Ascension Saint Thomas Sports Park on July 29 and conduct three more sessions on July 30, August 1, and August 2 to conclude the camp.

As soon as the training camp winds up, the Titans are set to travel to Tampa Bay, where they will conduct a joint practice with the Bucs on August 7. They play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first preseason game on August 9, followed by an away match against the Atlanta Falcons on August 15. They close out the preseason at home on August 22 with a game against the Minnesota Vikings Vikings.

The Titans currently have a rich roster that will have to be cut down to the 53-man standardised version just four days after their Vikings game. They will have two weeks before they start their season against the Denver Broncos.
