It is a highly emotional moment for not just the athletes themselves but also their fans and countrymen when they secure an achievement on a huge stage such as the Olympics. A similar incident featured a little girl’s reaction to Katie Ledecky winning the gold medal at the 1500m freestyle event during the Paris Olympics.
As Ladecky exited the pool after her gold medal performance, the cameras at the Paris Olympics panned to a little girl in the audience rocking a ‘Team USA’ T-shirt. She was already elated by the American’s performance and was clapping vigorously. However, her emotions peaked when the 27-year-old waved back at her.
The girl’s eyes lit up, and she started freaking out. She told the person in the audience next to her that Katie Ladecky had waved back at her as she held onto the American flag. She started screaming in excitement and jumping up and down in her chair. After a few more seconds of her freaking out, she fell back into her chair with her mouth agape.

Ledecky was looking for redemption since the 400m freestyle event on July 28th when she was beaten by her long-time rival Ariarne Titmus, who secured first place at the event. The American came out swinging at her next appearance, winning the 1500m freestyle with an Olympic Record. Furthermore, she also secured first in the women’s 800m freestyle heat.
Katie Ledecky wins her 13th Olympics medal at the Paris Olympics to set a new all-time record
Team USA, comprising Katie Ledecky, Claire Weinstein, Paige Madden, and Erin Gemmell, won the silver medal in the 4x200m freestyle relay event on Friday. Despite narrowly missing out on first place, the American swimmer had plenty to celebrate. This win marked her 13th medal at the Olympic Games and made her the most decorated female Olympic swimmer of all time.
The 27-year-old’s stint in the race also played an important role in the victory. At one point during the race, Team USA was third in the race, trailing just behind China. However, Ledecky’s strong third leg pushed the American team to second place, where they finished the race.
Just a day ago, Ledecky had won an individual gold at the 1500m individual freestyle event, setting an Olympic record of 15:30.02. This made her the first female swimmer to win gold medals in four editions of the Olympic games.
