If Chris Jones or Gracie Hunt weren’t enough, Harrison Butker seems to have gotten another person speaking in his defense over his alleged sexist, anti-semitic, and anti-LGBTQ speech at the commencement of Benedictine College. Amidst the intense backlash faced by the NFL kicker, Whoopi Goldberg adamantly defended his freedom of speech.

Deep-rooted in his conservative Catholic ideologies, the Kansas City Chiefs star kicker told the female graduates to embrace being “homemakers” rather than working women, claiming deep down that’s what they are excited about. However, as soon as his speech surfaced on the internet, women of the 21st century did not seem to resonate with the athlete’s outrageous words

Although Goldberg decided to speak in the kicker’s defense during the recent episode of The View, she doesn’t seem to agree with his ideology. Instead, she spoke in the protection of his freedom of speech, asserting he has the right to his opinions and ideologies.

Listen, I like when people say what they need to say. He’s at a Catholic college, he’s a staunch Catholic. These are his beliefs and he’s welcome to them. I don’t have to believe them. I don’t have to accept them. The ladies that were sitting in that audience do not have to accept them.
Whoopi Goldberg said on Thursday

While talking about freedom of speech, Goldberg compared the current Butker situation with former NFL quarterback and current American civil rights activist, Colin Kaepernick, arguing both deserve respect despite having opinions and ideas different from others.

Whoopi Goldberg stands firm against calls to release Harrison Butker

As Goldberg gave the Kaepernick reference, she also argued that the Chiefs kicker shouldn’t lose his job over his beliefs, just like how he didn’t lose his job in the NFL for protesting during the national anthem. Given, the football fans have been demanding the Chiefs to release Butker after his controversial speech.

When you say to somebody, 'I don't like what you said, and so I'm gonna get your job taken away, because you disagree with me,' for me, that is an issue.

She also explained that the reason why she is standing up for the NFL player even though she doesn’t agree with him is because the criticism and backlash he has been facing for his opinions have happened to her and her co-hosts.
