WNBA star Caitlin Clark's impact sees Hollywood actress Whoopi Goldberg working to build women's sports
Women’s sports have seen tremendous growth in the past year. Primarily it was Caitlin Clark whose ascension to superstardom elevated both college women’s basketball as well as the WNBA. That came to the attention of Hollywood actress Whoopi Goldberg.
The Oscar-winning actress has been noticing how women’s sports has been trending for some time. It was inconceivable a few years ago when the likes of the USWNT lobbied for equal pay for women athletes. But there were not many takers as excepting tennis, women’s sports were not considered as exciting as those of the men.
However, Caitlin Clark changed the landscape particularly in basketball when millions thronged to watch the now 22-year-old bring excitement to the game. Since then, as the Paris Olympics showed, women’s events drew more attention than even the men’s on several occasions.
This prompted many networks and brands to jump onto the bandwagon. In light of all this, Whoopi Goldberg, speaking on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, had a special announcement. Once host Jimmy Fallon forwarded the topic, she said:

The soon to be 69-year-old revealed that they have already started operations in Asia and the Middle East. Now after finalizing deals, the All Women’s Sports Network will start their work in the United States. The network will show everything where a woman is competing—quite an impact for the WNBA superstar.
Caitlin Clark taking to golf has networks lining up
During her debut WNBA season exit interview, Caitlin Clark mentioned that she would be looking to play golf in the offseason. That piqued the interest of many, as tales of her talents in multiple sports has already been doing the rounds for some time.
The WNBA Rookie of the Year did play a round of golf with Indiana Fever teammate Lexie Hull earlier. But it seems the professionals have caught wind and want to include her in a proper tournament. Enter famed Swedish golfer Annika Sorenstam and The ANNIKA Pro-Am. Fever beat writer Scott Agness revealed this earlier on his X account.

She’s scheduled to play in The ANNIKA Pro-Am next Wednesday in Tampa Bay — and Golf Channel is starting their coverage earlier (at 11am) and will include live look-ins on her round.
She will be first off the tee at 7a.
Golf Channel moving their scheduled program Golf Today 90 minutes earlier than usual to cover this event is unheard of. That too, for her warmup shots after which she will likely play with Nelly Korda. The impact the superstar is having on sports unprecedented. Maybe that’s why Whoopi Goldberg decided it was time to help fuel this breakthrough moment.
